Rees Named CEO of Community Health Center

Gary C. Rees has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of Community Health Centers of Southern Iowa (CHCSI).  Rees, formerly Acting Executive Director of Siouxland Community Health Center of Sioux City, accepted the current position on January 3 and has taken residence in Decatur County.

Originally from Pittsburgh, Rees possesses a BA in journalism and masters degrees in counseling and hospital management.  He has held numerous positions in healthcare administration and human resources in Missouri, Texas, Kentucky, and Iowa.

In his capacity as CEO, Rees will be responsible for hiring all employees, including physicians and nurse practitioners, as well as supervising the operations of the center.  CHCSI will operate clinics in Lamoni and Leon to serve patients in the surrounding eight-county area.  Rees will have offices in both clinics.

Operating under a renewable federal grant of $650,000 per year for three years, CHCSI is targeted for startup by April 1.  Significant administrative and financial reorganization of ambulatory care will be required in the interim to consolidate services for community health center status.

“I have already been very impressed with the level of cooperation and enthusiasm for this new venture,” said Rees.  “I am looking forward to forging positive relations with all those who provide healthcare services to our community.”

Speaking for the CHCSI Board of Directors, Bill Morain, Chairman, commented, “We are extremely pleased with Gary’s initial steps in bringing the healthcare community together.  His people skills are exceptional, and he has a clear focus on providing the best organization for medical care throughout the region.”
